I lay there on my back. Warm sheets touched my skin and comforted my anxiety. Sweat hissed down my face, brow, soaking the linens. I rolled to my side, facing the concrete wall, trying to summon sleep into my mind. I was never able to sleep. The shadows around me seemed to keep me up, like a soft vibrating disturbance at the back of my mind. It probed for my attention. It wished for me to be brave. To escape.
Around me, I could feel the undisturbed slumber
